anyone else just sit on 40m at night for no reason

so i dont even have anything specific i want to do most nights i just tune around 40 meters and listen. sometimes ill call CQ for a bit and get nothing and then just go back to listening. its kind of meditative honestly. picked up some station out of argentina the other night just barely readable but it was there. didnt even try to work him just enjoyed knowing he was there

anyway just curious if other people do this kind of aimless radio time or if im just weird

oh man yes, this is basically my whole hobby at this point. i got into ham thinking id be doing all this stuff but mostly i just listen. 40m at night is something else especially in winter when propagation gets weird and you start hearing stuff from places you wouldnt expect. sometimes i fall asleep in the chair with headphones on and wake up to some spanish language net i've never heard before

not weird at all. thats kind of how i learned what the bands actually do, just sitting and listening for weeks before i even tried to transmit anything
