so ive been licensed about 8 months now and finally starting to get into chasing DX a little more seriously. i downloaded a bunch of apps and bookmarked a ton of sites and now im kind of overwhelmed honestly. right now i have QRZ pulled up on one tab and DXwatch on another and im not totally sure if im using them together the right way or if im just duplicating effort.

like on QRZ the cluster spots update pretty fast but i notice sometimes DXwatch has spots that QRZ doesnt show and vice versa. is that normal? are they pulling from different networks or something? i thought they all fed from the same place but maybe not.

also does anyone use any phone apps for this stuff? i saw something called DX Toolkit and also Ham Radio Deluxe has some cluster stuff built in i think but i havent tried it yet. just wondering what everyone actually uses day to day, not looking for anything fancy just something reliable that doesnt crash every five minutes

yeah they're definitely pulling from different nodes on the DX cluster network, so you'll get some overlap but also spots that only showed up on certain nodes depending on who's connected where. its been like that forever honestly. QRZ's spot feed is pretty solid for casual use but DXwatch lets you filter by band and mode which i find way more useful when im specifically hunting 17m or looking for FT8 activity on 40.

for phone apps i've been using DX Alert for a while now, you can set it to notify you when a specific callsign or entity gets spotted and thats been a gamechanger for me. missed way too many rare ones before that because i wasnt watching the screen. HRD's cluster integration is fine but its kind of clunky to navigate if you ask me, feels like it was designed for a monitor from 2003.

im pretty much in the same boat as you, been licensed about a year and a half and still figuring out the cluster stuff. one thing i found helpful was just picking one and sticking with it for a while instead of trying to watch three things at once. i mostly use DXwatch now because someone on here recommended it and it seems fine, gets the job done. havent really compared it scientifically to anything else lol
