so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state forest near me, KFF reference, and honestly it was a blast. way more fun than i expected. set up my little end-fed half wave off a tree branch and started calling on 40m and got a decent pileup going after maybe 15 minutes which surprised me because i was only running about 25 watts from my KX2.

anyway my question is about logging — i used paper in the field and then transferred everything to ADIF when i got home but im not 100% sure i have all the exchange fields right for WWFF. do you need to log the specific reference number in every contact or just once in the header or something? i uploaded to the WWFF logbook of the world thing but not sure if it went through right. also does the activator need 44 contacts to qualify the reference or is that just for POTA, i keep mixing the two programs up

either way the whole experience of just sitting out there in the woods with headphones on, birds going crazy around me, was really something. already planning the next one

congrats on the first activation, those early ones are the best. to answer your question — yeah WWFF needs 44 QSOs to qualify the reference, same number as POTA ironically, but they are totally separate programs with separate logs and awards. you do need the reference in your log for each contact, not just the header. when you upload to the wwff logbook they want to see the reference in the MY_SIG_INFO field if youre doing ADIF. some logging programs handle this automatically but if you typed it manually just double check that field isnt blank.

also worth joining the WWFF Facebook group if you haven't already, the folks there are really helpful and the activators spots page is great for getting chasers to find you. sounds like the setup worked fine if you were getting a pileup on 25w, the KX2 is a solid little rig for this kind of thing

oh man i was literally just looking into WWFF last week trying to figure out the difference between it and POTA myself lol. from what i can tell WWFF has more international references which is cool if you want to chase DX parks? like people activating in europe and australia and wherever. POTA seems more north america focused although i think they've expanded too. anyway im not much help on the logging question but wanted to say cool that you got it working, gives me confidence to try my first activation soon. did you pre-spot yourself on the wwff spotter before you started or just start calling and hope for the best
