so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state forest near me, KFF-1234 if anyone knows it, and honestly it went way better than i expected but i have some questions for folks whove done more of these.

i set up a simple endfed with my KX2 and just started calling on 40m, picked up maybe 14 contacts in about an hour and a half before the bugs got too bad and i had to pack up. logged everything on paper because my phone was almost dead and i hadn't thought to bring a portable battery for it, which is something ill fix next time for sure.

anyway my main question is about the log upload — do i just go to the WWFF website directly or is there some other way people submit their logs? i saw something about using ADIF files but im not totally sure my logging software exports in exactly the right format they want. also does it matter if some of my contacts didn't give me a signal report, a few people just gave their callsign and moved on, which i get, chasers are busy.

oh and is 14 contacts enough to actually validate the activation? i thought i read somewhere that you need 44 but then someone in another thread said thats for SOTA and WWFF is different. getting confused between the programs honestly

congrats on the first activation, 14 contacts is actually totally fine for WWFF — the minimum is 44 for a full activation but you can still submit the log and it counts as a partial, and the reference still gets credit toward chasers hunting it. some of the less-activated references only ever see partial logs so dont worry about it too much, just get out there again and you'll hit 44 easier than you think once you get the hang of pouncing chasers on parksnpeaks or the WWFF logger.

for the log upload just head to wwff.co and create an account if you havent, then you can upload an ADIF directly. most logging programs spit out a standard ADIF that works fine, i use Log4OM and never had an issue. the signal report thing doesnt matter, just needs callsign, time, band and mode really. the website is a bit clunky but you get used to it

yeah WWFF and SOTA are totally different beasts, i mixed them up at first too. WWFF you dont have to climb anything which my knees appreciate lol. i do mostly parks on the air but ive been doing more WWFF lately because theres a ton of references near me that have barely been activated, like single digits on the counter, so its kinda fun to be the one getting them on the map.

one thing i'd suggest is next time post your activation to the WWFF spotting net ahead of time if you can, even just the day before. you'll get way more chasers tuning in when they know somebodys going to be there. i went from struggling to get 20 contacts to pulling 60+ just by doing that. also 40m was a solid choice, i find 20m gets me more dx chasers from europe which is fun but 40m fills the log faster domestically
