Struggling with paddle spacing adjustments - any tips?

Hi everyone! Recently upgraded from my trusty straight key to my first dual-lever paddle (Vibroplex Iambic Deluxe). The spacing feels off somehow - when I squeeze for letters like C or K, I get inconsistent timing. I've tried adjusting the contact gaps but still can't get that smooth feel I hear others talk about. Anyone have advice on proper paddle setup for a new iambic user?

Running it with the built-in keyer on my IC-7300 at around 18 WPM. 73!

Make sure your brass contacts are clean and properly adjusted - even tiny amounts of oxidation can cause timing issues. Most keyers have fine timing adjustments for dah-to-dit ratios in the menu. Start there before blaming the paddle!

Take it slow and practice at lower speeds until your fingers develop the rhythm. I struggled with the same thing when I switched from straight key. The key is releasing each paddle as it finishes its final element.

Check your IC-7300 keyer settings - sounds like you might need to adjust the weight or spacing parameters. Look for dit/dah ratio and element spacing adjustments in the CW menu. The Vibroplex paddles are excellent when properly set up.
