N1MM vs Log4OM for everyday logging + contests, worth switching?

so ive been using N1MM for a while now, mostly for contests but i also just leave it running for regular QSOs which i know isnt really what its designed for but it works ok. a buddy at the club keeps telling me to try Log4OM and says it handles the day to day stuff way better while still being decent for contesting. im not sure i want to deal with migrating everything over though.

the other thing is i run WSJT-X pretty regularly for FT8 and my current setup has N1MM and WSJT-X talking to each other through UDP which mostly works but i get occasional dupes logged or the freq doesnt update right, little annoyances. wondering if Log4OM handles that integration any smoother or if its just the same headaches with a different interface.

anyone actually made the switch or run both? i have like 8 years of logs in N1MM at this point so thats kind of holding me back from doing anything drastic

I run Log4OM for day to day and still fire up N1MM just for contesting. Honestly thats probably the setup you want rather than trying to make one program do everything. Log4OM's WSJT-X integration is pretty solid, the UDP bridge works well and i havent had the dupe issue you're describing, at least not regularly. The interface takes some getting used to, theres a lot going on, but once you set it up its nice having your QSL tracking and awards chasing all in one place.

As for migrating 8 years of N1MM logs, I did it with ADIF export and it went mostly fine. Lost some contest specific exchange data but for the basic QSO records it was clean. Wouldnt call it painless but it wasnt a disaster either. I'd just run them side by side for a while and see how you feel about it before committing to anything.

the UDP thing between N1MM and WSJT-X biting you is usually a port conflict or you've got logging enabled in WSJT-X itself AND N1MM both trying to write the same contact, check that setting first before you blame either program. i wasted like two hours on that exact issue last winter during FT8 roundup.
