New General class here (KD9XYZ), just worked some nice DX and want to get my confirmations squared away. I've heard LoTW is the way to go for DXCC but the setup process looks pretty intimidating. Anyone have advice for a newcomer? What are the gotchas I should watch out for?

Also wondering - is it worth setting up eQSL too, or should I focus on one system first?

Welcome to the DX world! LoTW setup isn't as bad as it looks. Key tips: make sure your FCC info is current first, then request the certificate. ARRL will mail a postcard to your FCC address, so update that if needed. Start with LoTW since ARRL doesn't recognize eQSL for awards.

I did both systems when I started. eQSL integrates with most logging software and sends cards automatically, which is nice for casual contacts. But for serious DX work, LoTW is essential since LoTW QSLs count towards ARRL awards like DXCC.

Just went through this myself last month! The certificate process takes about 2-3 weeks. While you're waiting, start getting your paper logbooks into software - that was the biggest time sink for me. Ham Radio Deluxe worked great for the LoTW integration once everything was set up.
