so i was just sitting at the radio saturday afternoon not really expecting much and suddenly 10 meters just absolutely came alive. i was hearing stations from south america, europe, even a couple JA stations came through pretty clearly for about 45 minutes. havent seen it that good in a while honestly. managed to work a few new entities which was a nice surprise for just a casual afternoon session.

also saw that icom apparently just announced some new stuff — theres been chatter on a couple other forums about a possible update to the 7300 line or some new entry level rig, dont know how much of that is rumor vs actual confirmed announcements. if anyone has more solid info on that id be curious. i keep seeing vague posts but nothing with real specs yet.

also reminder for anyone in the midwest — there's a hamfest coming up in a few weeks, think its the one in dayton area? or near there. worth checking the arrl site if you havent already. been a few years since ive made the trip and im starting to think about going again.

yeah i caught the tail end of that opening, was on 28.400 and suddenly the noise floor just dropped and signals started popping up. worked a LU station pretty easily which never happens on a random saturday for me. my antenna situation isnt great right now (long story, HOA stuff) so anytime 10 opens like that its kind of a treat because even my compromise setup can do something useful.

on the icom thing, ive seen the same rumors floating around. someone posted what looked like a blurry photo of something on one of the facebook groups but honestly could have been anything. ill believe it when i see a real press release. though i will say if they do update the 7300 i might actually have a hard time not pulling the trigger, my current rig is getting a bit long in the tooth.

omg i didnt even have my radio on saturday, was doing yard work all afternoon and totally missed it. this is why i need to just leave the thing on in the background more often lol. i only got my tech last year and just upgraded to general a couple months ago so im still figuring out when to even bother checking the higher bands. is there a good way to know when an opening like that is starting without just stumbling onto it?
