so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend, went out to a state forest about 45 minutes from home, KFF reference, had a great time overall. managed to get 44 QSOs in about 2 hours which i think is enough to count as a valid activation? i was running 10 watts into a linked dipole strung between two trees and the bands were actually decent for once.

couple things im not sure about though. when i log the contacts do i need to upload to both WWFF directly and also SOTA Goat or whatever, or is there one central place that handles it? i was reading the docs on the WWFF website and honestly got a litle confused about where the logs go. also do i need to note the exact grid square or is the reference number enough for the hunters to find my activation in their logs?

the other thing is i was operating right next to a creek and the noise floor was basically zero, it was just really pleasant out there. cant believe it took me this long to try this. already looking at a few more references near me that i hadnt noticed before.

congrats on the first one, 44 QSOs is solid especially on 10 watts. yeah you're well over the 44 minimum so that activation definitely counts. for the logging you'll want to upload your ADIF to the WWFF logbook at wwff.co, that's really the main one. a lot of folks also upload to QRZ or LotW separately but for the actual WWFF credit the wwff.co database is what matters for both you and the hunters. the reference number in your log is what the hunters need, the grid is nice to have but not strictly required for the program itself.

sounds like you caught the bug, the creekside thing is real - i did an activation at a wildlife refuge last spring and just sitting there between contacts listening to the frogs was worth the whole trip honestly

im pretty new to WWFF too but i think there's also the option to have it sync with parks on the air in some cases depending on where you were? not 100% sure on that, someone else probably knows better. but yeah the wwff.co upload is definitely the right move. i did my first activation a few months ago and was confused by the same stuff. once you do it once it kind of clicks. what band were you mostly on?
