studying for tech exam, not sure where to even start

so i've been wanting to get into ham radio for a while now and finally decided to just go for it and take the technician exam. i downloaded some stuff off the arrl website but honestly its a lot to take in and i dont really know what to focus on. like do i need to memorize every single question in the question pool or is there a smarter way to go about this? i've seen people mention hamstudy.org and also some old gordon west book but i cant tell if the book is even up to date at this point. the exam pool updated recently i think? anyway just looking for some direction i guess, i have about 3 weeks before the testing session near me

hamstudy.org is genuinely all you need, i wouldnt even bother with a book unless you really like reading. the site pulls from the actual current question pool and tracks which ones you keep getting wrong so you can focus on those. just do like 20-30 minutes a day and you'll be ready in 3 weeks no problem. the tech exam isnt super hard, the math parts trip some people up but theres only a handful of questions that involve actual calculation and once you see the pattern they make sense. ohms law and a little bit of the decibel stuff is really all the math you need to worry about.

the gordon west book is fine but yeah check the edition, the question pools update on a cycle and if the book doesnt match the current pool youre studying wrong answers basically. hamstudy shows you when the pool expires so you know its current.

i passed mine last spring and honestly just used hamstudy for like two weeks. what helped me was not just clicking through randomly but actually reading the little explanations they give under each answer, cause some of the questions about things like operating procedures and band privileges actually make more sense when you understand why the answer is what it is instead of just memorizing it. the electrical theory stuff felt scary at first but theres way less of it than i expected on the actual test
