so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend, been meaning to try it for months and kept putting it off. went out to a state forest that has a KFF reference and set up my little end fed halfwave with a 9:1 unun strung up in a tree, ran about 25 watts on 40m and a bit on 20m. managed to get 44 QSOs which i know isnt the magic 44 number... wait it is exactly 44 so i guess it counts as a valid activation haha

anyway the whole thing was really enjoyable, way more relaxed than SOTA where im usually scrambling around on some windy hilltop trying not to knock my radio off a rock. being in the woods was just nice, had lunch, watched some squirrels argue over something, made contacts. good day overall.

my question is around logging, i used HAMRS on my phone which was great for POTA but i noticed WWFF has its own thing going on with the flora-fauna.org site. do i need to submit the log differently or can i just upload the ADIF the same way? also are there hunter awards on the WWFF side like there are for POTA? a few people who called me mentioned they were hunting WWFF specifically so i assume yes but i wasnt totally sure how it all worked on their end

congrats on the first one, and yeah 44 is the threshold so you're good. the logging side is pretty straightforward - you just export your ADIF from HAMRS or whatever you're using and upload it to the WWFF logbook at flora-fauna.org. the main thing to double check is that your KFF reference is in the log correctly because the site is pretty particular about the format. some people have had issues where it imported but didnt credit the right reference because of a small formatting thing.

and yes there are hunter awards, quite a few actually. hunters can go for endorsements based on how many different references they've worked, different countries, different flora/fauna categories if im remembering right. the community is pretty international which is one of the things i like about it - you get a lot of European activators and hunters which means good propagation timing really matters. i usually try to get on 20m in the morning when the long path to Europe is decent. sounds like you had a solid first run though, the 44 contact minimum feels more achievable in a flat forest park than on a freezing summit honestly

nice work, i did my first one a few months ago and had the same questions about the logging. one thing i'll add is make sure the KFF number is correct before you upload because i submitted mine and then realized i had the wrong reference number and it was kind of a pain to sort out after the fact. the admins were helpful but still, easier to just double check before you go.

also the squirrels comment made me laugh, i had a very curious dog wander into my operating area during one activation and just sit there staring at me the whole time, no idea where it came from
