anyone else catch that 10m opening yesterday? wild stuff

so i was just messing around on 10m yesterday afternoon, wasn't really expecting much because conditions have been pretty meh lately, and all of a sudden i started hearing stations from south america coming in like they were next door. worked a couple guys in brazil and then a station in argentina without even trying that hard, running like 50 watts into my little vertical. lasted maybe an hour and a half before it faded out again.

also saw that icom dropped some info about a new rig, i think it was on the dx world site or maybe qrz, cant remember which. something in the mid-tier HF range. anybody seen more details on that? im curious if its gonna compete with the 7300 price point or aim higher. the 7300 has been the go-to for so long now it'd be interesting to see something shake that up a bit.

anyway just thought id share since it made my tuesday a lot more fun than it had any right to be

yeah i caught part of that opening too, got on around 3pm local and heard a few europeans actually which surprised me more than the south american stuff. my beam was pointing the wrong way at first and i still pulled in a guy from spain no problem. solar flux must've ticked up, i didnt check the numbers until after.

on the icom thing, i think i know what you're talking about and from what i read it sounds like it's positioned a bit above the 7300 but below the 7610. which honestly might be a weird spot to land but we'll see when actual pricing comes out. the 7300 is still hard to beat for what it costs used these days though. i picked mine up secondhand two years ago and haven't had a single reason to complain.

oh man i totally missed it, i was at work until like 6 and by then i guess it was already gone. this keeps happening to me with 10m, every time theres a good opening im stuck doing something else. one of these days im gonna take a long lunch break and just sit by the radio for a couple hours and see what happens lol

still pretty new to HF so i havent worked much dx yet, 10m openings seem like a good way to get started from what people keep telling me since you dont need a ton of power. is that right?
