so its like 9pm local and im just spinning the dial on 40m and honestly its pretty dead around here tonight, got a few weak SSB signals but nothing worth trying to break into. been a ham for about 6 years now and i still get this weird feeling where i just want SOMETHING to happen on the band even when conditions are garbage. my neighbor asked me the other day what ham radio even is and i spent like 20 minutes trying to explain it and he still looked confused lol. anyway just seeing if anyone else is on and feeling the same way tonight or if its just me

yeah 40 has been kinda meh all week tbh. i switched over to 80 around sunset and actually had a decent ragchew with a guy in tennessee for like an hour, he had a really nice setup. might be worth trying lower if youre bored

lol i know that feeling exactly. i tried explaining it to my wife again last month and just gave up halfway through. something about "talking to strangers on a radio" does not land well apparently. also the neighbor explanation thing is impossible, i usually just say its like a really complicated walkie talkie and leave it at that
