AO-91 doppler shift driving me crazy

so ive been trying to work AO-91 for the past week and i think im doing something wrong with the doppler correction. using a ic-9700 and gpredict for tracking but when the bird comes up i can hear stations but they sound really off frequency even though gpredict says im right on. am i supposed to be adjusting something manually or should the rig be handling this automatically? the manual is pretty vague about satellite operation and youtube videos all seem to show different setups

anyone else had issues with this combo or am i just missing something obvious here

Yeah the 9700 can be tricky with sat mode. You need to make sure you have the right CAT commands set up in gpredict and that your uplink/downlink frequencies are exactly right. I had the same problem until I realized I was using the wrong beacon frequency as reference. Also check that your doppler.dat file is current - old keps will throw everything off

dont know about the 9700 specifically but with my setup i find manual tuning works better than trying to get the computer to do everything. i just start a few khz low on the uplink when the sat comes up and tune by ear until i hear myself in the downlink. takes practice but once you get the feel for it its actually pretty easy. gpredict is good for knowing when to start listening but i wouldnt trust it for exact frequencies
