using DXwatch and QRZ cluster spotting together - am i doing this right?

so ive been playing around with both DXwatch and the cluster on QRZ.com for a few weeks now and honestly im not sure if im using them the most efficient way. like i'll have both open in separate tabs and sometimes i see spots on one that dont show up on the other for a few minutes, or sometimes ever. is that normal? i thought they were pulling from the same pool of data but maybe not?

also the filtering on DXwatch seems a little more flexible to me, i can narrow down by band and mode pretty easily which is nice when im only listening on 17m or whatever. the QRZ one is fine but it feels like theres more noise in the feed. anyway just curious what other people are using and if theres some trick to it i havent figured out yet. been chasing dx for about 8 months now, still pretty new to all this.

yeah they definitely dont all pull from the exact same sources, that latency difference you're seeing is real. DXwatch aggregates from a bunch of nodes but QRZ's cluster has its own thing going on i think partly tied to their own network. you'll notice if you start comparing them long enough that certain rare dx shows up on one before the other depending on where the spotting station is geographically.

for what its worth i usually keep DXwatch as my main one and then use the QRZ lookup simultaneously just to check activity on a callsign before i start chasing. oh and have you tried DX Summit at all? old school but still pretty solid, some operators swear by it. if you're getting serious about dx chasing you might also want to look into setting up a client like DXKeeper or even just Log4OM, they can pull cluster spots directly into a window which is way cleaner than juggling browser tabs.

honestly i was confused by all this for a long time too. i just pick one and stick with it most days, too much to keep track of otherwise haha. i use the QRZ one mostly because i'm already logged in over there checking callsigns anyway so it's just convenient. probably not the optimal setup but it works for me
