FT8 activity on 6m has been insane this week, anyone else catching the opening?

so i dont know if everyone has been watching propnet or pskreporter but 6 meters has been absolutely going off the last few days. im seeing spots from guys in the midwest all the way into south america and there were some EU signals coming through yesterday afternoon around 1800z that I honestly wasnt expecting at all for this time of year.

been running about 50 watts into a 4 element yagi i built last summer and worked 14 new grids just tuesday alone. if youre sitting on a 6m capable rig and havent fired it up lately, now is probably the time. the band doesnt usually do this in late spring but solar flux has been creeping up and i think were starting to see some real Es stacking with maybe some F2 on the longer paths.

also heard there was some kind of operating event tied to this but i cant find the details anywhere, did ARRL announce something or was it one of the VHF clubs doing a special activity weekend? somebody mentioned it on the club net last night but the audio was rough and i missed most of it.

yeah I caught a little of it Wednesday morning before work, logged a couple stations in EM and TM squares which i'd never worked before on 6. had to leave for a meeting right when it started getting really good of course, typical.

the event you're thinking of might be the June VHF contest thats coming up, ARRL does it every year and 6 meters is usually the star of the show especially when conditions cooperate like this. worth checking the ARRL contest calendar, i think its the second full weekend of june but dont quote me on that. if the flux stays up like this its gonna be a great one.

this is actually my first year having a 6m setup so im pretty excited to hear this. just got an IC-7300 a few months ago and ive been mostly on HF learning the ropes but i did notice a bunch of FT8 activity on 50.313 the other day and worked a few stations, didnt realize i was catching an opening thats apparently a big deal lol. guess ill be paying more attention to that band now. whats a good resource to track openings in real time, is pskreporter the main thing people use?
