N1MM vs Log4OM for everyday logging, anyone switched?

so ive been using N1MM forever basically, mostly because thats what everyone at the club uses and it made sense to just follow along when i was starting out. but ive been hearing more people talk about Log4OM lately and honestly im curious if its worth the hassle of switching. my main thing is i do a mix of casual ragchewing, some digital with WSJT-X, and then a handful of contests through the year - not serious contesting, like maybe 3 or 4 a year just for fun.

the WSJT-X integration is where i keep running into friction with N1MM. it works, mostly, but ive had this recurring thing where the UDP port stuff gets confused if i open and close WSJT-X a few times in a session and then N1MM just stops logging the FT8 contacts. i have to restart everything and its annoying. not sure if thats a me problem or a known thing.

anyway if anyone has actually made the switch from N1MM to Log4OM or even runs both for different purposes id love to hear how that actually works day to day. does Log4OM hold up during a real contest or is it more of an everyday logging thing

ran into the exact same UDP thing with WSJT-X and N1MM, drove me nuts for a while. turned out i had two instances of N1MM somehow still running in the background even though the window was closed, so the port was getting grabbed and then dropped weird. task manager fixed it, kind of a dumb solution but it worked. might be worth checking that before you go down the rabbit hole of switching everything over.

as for Log4OM i tried it for a few months last year. its genuinely nice for everyday logging, the interface feels a lot more modern and the WSJT-X integration was rock solid for me, no issues at all. but when i tried to use it for the ARRL DX contest i just felt slow. N1MM is so optimized for that rapid exchange logging, the keyboard flow, the dupe checking speed, i kept missing things in Log4OM. ended up going back to N1MM just for contests and keeping Log4OM for everything else. running two programs sounds annoying but honestly the ADIF export from Log4OM into whatever i need is easy enough that it doesnt bug me that much

i dont do contests at all so maybe take this with a grain of salt but Log4OM has been my main logger for about two years now and i genuinely cant imagine going back to N1MM for day to day stuff. the cloudlog sync alone is worth it if you care about that kind of thing, and the way it handles LoTW confirmations is just cleaner to look at. WSJT-X works fine, i just leave it all running and it logs FT8 contacts automatically without me touching anything.

that said if contests are part of your life N1MM is probaly the better tool for that specific job. thats just kind of its whole thing
