APRS beacon not showing up on aprs.fi but TNC seems fine??

so ive been fighting this for about three days now and im pretty much at my wits end. running a KPC-3+ into a Kenwood TM-V71A on 144.390 and the TNC is keying the radio, i can see the PTT light come on and the audio is going out, checked it with a second radio sitting next to it. but nothing ever shows up on aprs.fi for my callsign. tried with and without the SSID.

the path is set to WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 which should be fine for my area, i checked and there are like 4 digipeaters within range according to the map. beacon interval is every 10 minutes. i dont think its an audio level thing because i calibrated it months ago when i first set this up and it was working fine then. honestly have no idea what changed. did update the firmware on the radio a while back but that was before it stopped working so probably unrelated

anyone dealt with this before or have any ideas where to start poking around

first thing id check is the audio level coming out of the TNC into the radio. even if you calibrated it before, sometimes these things drift or a setting gets reset. the V71A has a separate data port level in the menu somewhere, i think its under the AUX settings, and it can get knocked around. too hot and you'll be transmitting garbage that no digi will decode even though the radio sounds like its keying fine to you.

also worth checking if your path is actually getting gated. sometimes the digis are there on the map but theyre not actually operational or the igate coverage in your area has a gap. you can use a second TNC or SDR to actually receive your own packets and see if theyre being decoded correctly before they even hit a digi. that'll tell you pretty quick if the problem is local to your station or somewhere in the network.

had almost the exact same thing happen to me last spring. turned out my symbol table character got corrupted somehow in the KPC-3+ config, so the packet was technically going out but aprs.fi was choking on parsing it. pulled up AGWPEmon or just a terminal and actually looked at the raw packet string. mine had some garbage character in the position report field. reflashed the TNC config from scratch and it came right back up.
