studying for tech license, not sure where to even start

so ive been wanting to get into ham radio for a while now, my neighbor is a ham and he keeps telling me to just go get my ticket already. i finally decided to actually do it but honestly i dont even know where to start with studying. there's like the hamstudy website and then i saw some book at the library but i dont know if the question pool is current or not. the book looked kind of old.

is there like a recommended way to do this or do people just memorize the question pool? i heard the actual test questions come straight from the pool which seems kind of weird but also great i guess. how long did it take you guys to study, i have maybe an hour or two a night i can put into this

hamstudy.org is honestly all you need, i used it and passed on my first try without buying anything. it tracks which questions you're getting wrong and keeps drilling those until you get them right. the current tech pool is good through i think so youre fine there.

the one thing id say is dont just blindly memorize answers, especially for the electrical and antenna stuff. if you actually understand why the answer is right it sticks a lot better and some of the questions are worded tricky enough that pure memorization can trip you up. for everything else like regulations and band plans yeah just grind the flashcards. most people i know studied maybe two or three weeks at your pace and were ready. the test itself is 35 questions and you need 26 right, its really not bad at all

yeah i was in your exact spot like four months ago lol. i did hamstudy plus i watched a bunch of youtube videos for the parts i didnt get, there's a guy who does walk throughs of the harder concepts and that helped a lot more than just staring at flash cards for the ohms law stuff. took me about three weeks studying casually and i passed no problem. good luck, once you get your callsign you'll wonder why you waited so long
