finally did my first POTA activation yesterday - some thoughts

so i finally stopped procrastinating and drove out to the state park about 20 mins from my house. been meaning to do this for like 6 months. threw the KX2 in my backpack with the random wire antenna and just... went for it. honestly way easier to set up than i expected, got the wire up in a tree maybe 15 feet using a throw bag and was on 40m within like 15 minutes of parking. made my 10 contacts no problem, mostly ssb but threw in a couple CW at the end just to feel fancy. the only real issue was my camp chair kept sinking into the soft ground which was kinda annoying but whatever. already thinking about what ill do differently next time - probably bring a small mat to sit on and maybe try 20m earlier in the afternoon instead of camping on 40 the whole time

nice work man, that first one is always the hardest just cause you dont really know what to expect. i remeber my first activation i completely forgot to bring a pen to log on paper and had to use the notes app on my phone which worked fine but felt weird lol. 20m in the afternoon is a good call, ive had way better luck there especially on weekends when the pileups are thicker and hunters are actually listening. what state park was it if you dont mind me asking

KX2 is such a good field radio. jealous honestly. i've been doing POTA with my old FT-818 and it works but the KX2's built in tuner just sounds so much easier to deal with
