So I finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a local nature reserve, KFF-something, I'd have to look up the exact reference number. Been meaning to try this for months and just never got around to it. Threw the KX3 in the bag with a end-fed halfwave and hiked about 20 minutes in to a nice open spot away from the trees.

Ended up making 34 contacts over about 3 hours on 40 and 20m SSB which I was pretty happy with for a first attempt. Spotted myself on the WWFF spotting network (pota.app works for this too right? or is there a separate one?) and the pile actually got decent for a while which was a surprise. Most people calling seemed to know the exchange — signal report and my reference number — but a few were confused and asking for a grid square or something, which threw me off a bit.

Couple of questions for anyone whos done this before. Do I need 44 contacts minimum for a valid activation like POTA, or is the WWFF threshold different? And for logging, I've been using HAMRS but im not sure if it exports in the right format for the WWFF database upload. Any tips on the submission process would be great, the website is a little confusing to navigate honestly.

congrats on the first one, 34 contacts is solid especially if conditions were anything like they were here last weekend. yeah the minimum for a valid WWFF activation is 44 QSOs which is a bit more than POTA's 10, so you'll want to go back out and top it up before you submit. the good news is contacts count from multiple visits to the same reference as long as you log them under the same KFF number, so you can combine trips.

for the spotting thing, wwff.group has their own spotting page but honestly most hunters are watching pota.app too and they'll pick you up either way. for logging i use ADIF master to clean up my files before uploading, HAMRS should export a standard ADIF that the WWFF logger will accept but double check that your HASC and SIG/SIG_INFO fields are in there otherwise it might reject the upload. the submission page on wwff.group walks you through it once you create an account, bit clunky but it works.

oh man I didn't realize the threshold was 44, I made the same mistake on my first one haha. Had to go back the following weekend and luckily the weather cooperated. The grid square thing -- yeah some hunters are also doing POTA or SOTA at the same time and just go on autopilot asking for it. I just say "no grid, WWFF only, reference is KFF-XXXX" and move on, most people get it. welcome to the addiction by the way, ive got like 6 activations now and already planning a big one at a national forest next month
