so i was out in the shack this morning just doing some casual monitoring and 10m was absolutely alive, i was hearing stations from Brazil and what sounded like eastern Europe just on a basic dipole, havent seen the band this active since... honestly maybe 2012 or so? solar cycle 25 is really delivering lately

anyway while i was on there i kept hearing people mention some new Yaesu release, something about an updated version of the FT-710 or a new handheld, i honestly couldnt catch all of it and my internet out here is terrible so i havent been able to look it up properly. anyone know whats going on with that? also if you havent checked 10m recently seriously just turn the radio on and point an antenna at it, even a bad antenna, you might be surprised

also our club is doing a special event station next weekend for the towns 150th anniversary if anyones in the central Ohio area, we could use a few more operators for the Saturday morning shift

yeah 10m has been nuts, i worked 34 countries last month just on SSB and im running like 100 watts into a vertical thats probably not even tuned right. its wild how different the band feels when the solar flux is up. my buddy who has been licensed for 30 years said he forgot what a real 10m opening looked like lol

as for the Yaesu thing i saw something on one of the Facebook groups, i think its a new FT-5D variant or something like that, maybe updated firmware situation, i dont have the details either but someone posted a link to a Japanese ham site that had some pictures. worth digging around on eham or radioreference forums, those guys usually have the early info before it hits the US distributors

oh man i wish i saw this earlier, i was at work all day and completely missed whatever happened on 10m. this always happens to me. i just got my general like 6 weeks ago and ive been trying to catch an opening on the higher HF bands and every time something good happens im not around

is there a good way to get alerts for this stuff? like when the bands are actually doing something interesting? someone mentioned DX maps to me but i havent really figured it out yet
