so this has been bugging me for a couple weeks now. im running a TM-D710G in the truck with a GPS puck mounted on the dash, the GPS is locking fine (green light, good coordinates showing on the head unit) but when i look myself up on aprs.fi im showing up like 40 miles northeast of where i actually am. its not even close, its a completely different town.

at first i thought it was the GPS being goofy but ive verified the coordinates on the radio display match where i actually am so the data going into the radio is correct. my path is set to WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 which should be fine for mobile. im wondering if theres some weird digipeater in the area that's mangling the position data or if maybe theres an old beacon that got cached somewhere with my callsign. i did have a different setup a few months ago when i was experimenting with an opentracker, could that be confusing the APRS-IS somehow?

anybody run into something like this before? kinda frustrating when you're trying to use it for actual tracking during a net.

yeah i'd check aprs.fi and look at the raw packets tab for your callsign. if you're seeing packets from multiple sources under the same call it could absolutely be old data from that opentracker still floating around, especially if you never changed the SSID. the IS servers cache stuff but it usually expires, though ive seen weird ghost entries hang around longer than they should.

also worth checking your symbol and whether the position ambiguity setting got changed at some point — the D710 has that buried in the GPS menu and if it got bumped to like the 10 mile setting it'll deliberately fuzz your coordinates. dont laugh i've seen it happen to people. check menu 600-something on the radio, i dont remember the exact number off the top of my head.

the opentracker thing is a real possibility. if it was beaconing with the same callsign and no SSID, or even the same SSID, and it had bad coordinates hardcoded or pulled from a weak GPS fix, some of that could still be sitting in the IS. i'd try beaconing a few times with a comment that includes your grid square or something you can verify, then compare what raw packets show up on findu.com or aprs.fi raw data and see if anything looks off.

also just to rule out the obvious — is your radio set to GPS mode or are you by any chance running in fixed beacon mode with old coordinates still in there. i know you said the display looks right but worth a quick sanity check in the menu.
