RMS Packet/Trimode Setup Issues - Authorization Process Still Broken?

Working on setting up my first VHF packet gateway using RMS Packet v1.6.4 on Windows 10 with a TM-V71A and Signalink. Getting the "not authorized for gateway connections" error even though I submitted my request to K4CJX three weeks ago with no response. Has anyone successfully gotten authorization recently?

My hardware config: Kenwood TM-V71A @ 25W, Signalink USB, dedicated 2m antenna at 40ft. Planning to run both 1200 baud packet and VARA FM on 145.010 MHz. Already tested P2P connections successfully.

Any insights on the authorization timeline or alternative approaches while waiting?

I went through the same process last month - took about 6 weeks to get authorization. The team is all volunteer so be patient. While you wait, configure everything else and test using VARA FM in digipeater mode for P2P messaging. This gives you real-world experience with the system before going live.

Make sure your Winlink account shows recent activity - they want to see you're an active user before approving gateway status. Send some messages via telnet or existing gateways first. Also verify your email request included your name, callsign, and commitment to follow sysop guidelines exactly as stated on their website.

Check your spam folder - my authorization came through but got filtered. Also try reaching out on the Winlink groups.io forum with your request details. The sysop community is helpful and someone might be able to expedite your request if you have a specific EmComm need.
