anyone else just sitting around with the radio on and not really doing anything

so its been raining here all weekend and ive just had the rig on basically as background noise, occasionally throwing out a call on 40m but not really committing to anything. picked up a guy in Uruguay for like 5 minutes before the band just fell apart. sometimes i think thats my favorite kind of operating honestly, no pressure, no log goals, just kinda vibing with the radio on

anyone else do this or am i just being lazy lol

oh man yeah all the time. i call it "radio fishing" — you cast a line out and if something bites great, if not whatever. 40 and 80 are both good for that kind of thing on a rainy afternoon. i actually made most of my best contacts that way, just being on without really trying

the Uruguay thing is nice btw, LU stations are pretty common but still satisfying when the band cooperates

thats basically how i operate every weekend tbh. dont have the patience for contesting so just having something on in the background while i do other stuff around the shack works for me. sometimes ill hear something interesting and actually sit down and work it
