so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state wildlife management area near me, KFF-something i had to look up the reference number the night before. i was pretty nervous honestly because ive done a handful of POTA activations but WWFF feels a bit different in terms of how hunters actually chase you and log stuff.

anyway i set up my KX3 with a linked dipole, conditions on 40m were pretty decent for a saturday morning and i got my 44 contacts in maybe an hour and a half which i was happy with. threw in a few on 20m too just for fun and picked up a couple european stations which was cool.

my questions are kind of dumb probably but here goes — do i need to submit logs to both WWFF and POTA separately if the reference is in both programs, and is there a standard way people spot themselves for WWFF specifically because i just used pota.app and wasnt sure if thats the done thing or if there's a WWFF specific spotter i should be using. also noticed some hunters asking for my signal report in a specific way, is there some exchange format i should know about or is it really just casual like POTA

congrats on the first one, WWFF activations are a lot of fun especially when you get that first european in the log from a field site.

on the log submission question — yes you generally do upload separately if the park is in both programs. WWFF has its own log upload system at wwff.co and it wants an ADIF with the WWFF reference in there. POTA goes to pota.app as you know. they dont automatically share data or anything like that so if you want credit in both programs you gotta do both uploads. some guys find this annoying but it is what it is.

for spotting, the wwff.co website has its own spots page and theres also a facebook group that gets used a fair amount depending on your region. using pota.app is totally fine though and a lot of hunters watch both. i usually post to both just to get more ears on the frequency.

and yeah the exchange is really casual, no formal thing like a contest. signal report, your callsign, the reference number is really all anyone needs. some hunters ask for the reference specifically so they can log it right but theres no mandatory exchange format.

nice work getting 44 in the log on your first try. i fumbled around for like two activations before i felt like i knew what i was doing with WWFF.

one thing i'll add is that the WWFF community has a pretty active presence on some of the regional facebook groups and that's honestly where i learned most of the unwritten stuff. like which references are considered rare and will bring a pile of hunters vs the ones that are pretty common. some of the national park references get a ton of attention and some of the smaller WMAs or nature reserves barely get spotted at all so you can have a really quiet activation depending on where you go.

also if youre interested in the Flora and Fauna side of it theres actually an expectation in the program that you mention wildlife or plants you see, some activators post photos with their logs which is kind of a nice touch and fits the whole spirit of the program. not required but people seem to appreciate it
