WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 Path vs WIDEn-N - Which for Mobile Operation?

Throughout North America the recommended path for mobiles or portable stations is WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1, but I'm seeing conflicting information about newer WIDEn-N algorithms. Advanced digipeaters support WIDEn-N and TRACEn-N algorithms which dynamically adjust packet relaying and reduce redundant transmissions to optimize network efficiency. For someone running a mobile tracker in the Pacific Northwest with mixed urban/rural coverage, which path strategy provides better reliability? I understand the theoretical difference but want real-world experience from operators who've compared both methods.

Stick with WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 for mobile. The WIDEn-N stuff is mainly for fill-in digis and special applications. APRS uses generic callsigns for automatic operation, and WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 is the established standard for mobiles across North America. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I've tested both extensively during Search and Rescue operations in Oregon. Digipeaters extend transmission range by retransmitting received packets, increasing coverage area. WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 gives more predictable coverage patterns, especially important when you need reliable position reports for tactical operations.

The smart algorithms are great in theory but legacy digis don't support them. WIDEn-N and TRACEn-N reduce redundant transmissions and prevent packet loops, but you can't count on every digi in your path being that smart. WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 works everywhere.
