New Tech - CTCSS tone programming confusion on local repeater

Finally got my license and trying to use the local 2m repeater. Even though I'm transmitting on the correct frequency, I can't access the repeater without the proper CTCSS tone. Found the tone in the directory but still not working. My Baofeng shows 'T-CTCS' and 'R-CTCS' options - do I need to set both? The repeater directory just lists 100.0 Hz. Any help appreciated!

Welcome to the hobby! Many newcomers fail to program the CTCSS tone properly. You only need T-CTCS (transmit) set to 100.0 Hz. Leave R-CTCS off unless you want tone squelch on receive.

I had the exact same problem with my UV-5R! Your radio must transmit the correct tone along with your voice signal or the repeater won't retransmit. Double-check you're using the input frequency too, not just the output.

Also make sure you're using the correct offset. On 2-meter band, the common offset is 600 kHz. If the repeater output is 146.940, your radio should transmit on 146.340 (minus offset) with the 100 Hz tone.
