i dont know maybe its just me but it feels like theres this weird split happening where you got the old timers who want everything to stay the same and then theres all these new people coming in through things like FT8 and starlink and whatever and neither group really talks to the other much. been licensed since 97 and i still love it but my local club meetings feel like a whole different world than what i see online. anyway not trying to start drama just curious if others are noticing this or if its just my area

yeah my club is the same way honestly. half the guys still argue about whether SSB is dying every single meeting and the other half are just there for the free coffee. i think the hobby is fine though, maybe even growing a little, its just fragmented now. everybody finds their own corner of it and stays there. not necessarily a bad thing

so anyway ive only been licensed about a year and a half and i kind of feel what your saying from the other side. like i got into it mostly through WSJT-X and some guys at my club made me feel like that wasnt real ham radio which was a bit offputting ngl. still love it though and eventually found some people who were cool about it
