I've noticed some operators, especially newer hams, jumping into conversations or calling CQ without listening first. Spending a few minutes listening ensures the frequency is clear and prevents interference with ongoing communications. This isn't just courtesy - it's essential for effective operation. When you change to a new frequency or repeater, listen for at least 30 seconds to make sure there isn't a conversation already going on. What other operating practices do you think new hams should focus on?
