so ive been getting more into DX chasing lately and honestly the cluster spotting thing has been kind of overwhelming to figure out. i know about DXwatch and i use it on my laptop but i want something i can just glance at while im sitting at the radio without switching windows constantly. someone at the club mentioned there are apps that tie into the cluster network but i dont really know what im looking for.

been using QRZ pretty heavily for callsign lookups and their logbook which i actually really like, but i feel like im missing out on real-time spots. like today there was apparently a really rare one on 17m and i totally missed it because i wasnt watching anything. my buddy texted me after the fact which was frustrating lol. anyway just wondering what other people are running on their phones or tablets for this kind of thing, android preferably but curious about all options really.

Ham Radio Deluxe has a DX cluster built in if you're on windows but for android the one i keep coming back to is DX Toolkit. its not super pretty but it pulls spots from the cluster network and you can filter by band which is really the main thing you want. also check out the web version of DXwatch on your phone browser, it actually works pretty decent as a mobile page and you can set it to auto refresh every couple minutes so you dont miss stuff.

the QRZ tools are fine for what they are but yeah for live spots you need something feeding directly from the telnet cluster nodes. once you get that going it changes the whole DX experience honestly, suddenly you realize how much activity there is that you were just never seeing.

clublog has some nice tools too and i think it integrates with spots somehow, im not 100% sure on that. but the OQRS system on clublog is great for bureau cards if you havent used that yet, bit of a tangent sorry. for what youre asking though i just keep a browser tab open to dxsummit.fi which is another cluster aggregator, works fine on my tablet and updates pretty regularly. the key thing is filtering out the noise, if you just watch raw unfiltered spots its like drinking from a firehose especially on a busy day.
