okay so I passed my technician exam about three weeks ago and my license just showed up in the ULS database yesterday. I've been reading about vanity callsigns and I'm kind of confused about the whole thing. like I understand that you can apply for a specific call that you want, but I don't totally get the sequential part — does that mean the FCC just assigns you whatever comes next in line before you can even think about getting a vanity?
my uncle who's been a ham for like 30 years told me I should just wait and get whatever sequential call gets assigned first and then apply for a vanity after, but then I also read somewhere that you can apply for a vanity right away after getting licensed? I dont want to mess anything up or like... cause problems with my initial license. also wondering if there's a fee now since I heard that changed a few years back. any help appreciated, this is all a little overwhelming honestly
