so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state forest near me, KFF reference, and honestly it went way better than i expected. i was only planning to do like 20 minutes but ended up staying almost 3 hours because people just kept calling in. i think i made somewhere around 47 contacts which i know isnt a huge number but for me sitting out there with my KX2 and a random wire up in a tree it felt pretty good.

anyway i have a couple questions for people who have done more of these. first, do i need to submit my log anywhere specific for the WWFF program or does it just go through ADIF upload to the main site? i found the wwff.cc site but its a little confusing with all the different national program pages. second, is there a standard way people announce activations ahead of time? i just kind of showed up and started calling but i noticed some activators seem to get big pileups right away and i wonder if theyre posting somewhere beforehand. also someone spotted me on the POTA cluster which was nice but WWFF has its own spotting thing right?

sorry if these are obvious questions, i spent a while reading the site but it still felt a bit scattered to me

congrats on the activation, 47 contacts for a first time out is honestly solid especially if you werent pre-announcing. to answer your log question, yeah you upload the ADIF directly on the wwff.cc site, there should be a log submission link once you're logged into your account. if you're activating a KFF reference you'd go through the WWFF North America page i believe, or it might redirect you correctly from the main site. it took me a couple tries to figure out the flow the first time.

for announcing, most people use the WWFF Facebook groups and also the activator mailing list if your national group has one. there's also a spots page on the wwff.cc portal. honestly though a lot of activators just self-spot through whatever smartphone app they have handy, some use Ham Alert to trigger alerts for chasers who have set up filters for WWFF references. the pileup thing mostly comes down to how many dedicated chasers have you on their alert list, once you do a few activations and people recognize your callsign it tends to pick up.

WWFF and POTA share some chasers but they really are separate programs with separate logs so yeah you want to make sure you're getting credit in both places if the reference qualifies for both, which some do.

nice one, i did my first activation maybe 6 months ago and had the same confusion about where to submit stuff. the wwff.cc site is kind of a maze tbh but once you find the upload page it makes sense. one thing i didnt realize at first is that you need at least 44 QSOs in one activation for it to count as a full activation for the reference, so you just barely made it which is actually great timing haha.

i usually post to the WWFF Activators group on facebook the day before and that helps a lot, i went from like 20 contacts on my first one to over 80 on my second just because people knew i was going out
