first WWFF activation went better than expected, few questions though

so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state forest near me, KFF-something, i have to look up the exact number. anyway i was pretty nervous about the whole thing because ive done a handful of POTA but never WWFF and i wasnt totally sure how different it was gonna be.

setup was just my FT-891 running off a 20ah lifepo4, end fed halfwave up in a tree, worked pretty well honestly. ran SSB on 40m mostly and got about 34 QSOs in maybe two hours which i think counts as a valid activation? i read somewhere you need 44 but then someone else said 10 so im genuinely confused about that part.

also i noticed some hunters were specifically asking if i was logging for WWFF or POTA or both, and i just kind of fumbled through answering that. can you actually log the same QSOs for both programs simultaneously or do you have to choose? i uploaded to POTA already but havent touched the WWFF side yet because im not sure what im doing there. the adif stuff is confusing me a little bit.

overall though it was a really good time, the spot was beautiful and i had the whole area to myself which was nice. definitely want to do more of these.

congrats on the first one, WWFF is a great program. so to answer your main questions - the minimum for a valid WWFF activation is 44 QSOs, not 10, you might be thinking of POTA which is 10. so if you only got 34 you'd need to go back and top it up or it wont count as a valid activation for the WWFF side. the good news is those QSOs still exist and you can combine them with a future visit to the same reference.

as for logging for both programs at once, yes absolutely you can, thats totally normal and lots of activators do it. the WWFF and POTA references for a given location are often different entity numbers so you just make sure both are in your log and upload to each program separately. most logging software handles this fine, i use HAMRS for field work and it lets me tag things pretty easily. when you upload your ADIF to wwff.net just make sure the WWFF reference is in there, usually the MY_SIG and MY_SIG_INFO fields, same concept as POTA just different field names depending on the software.

dont get discouraged about the 44 count thing, it catches a lot of first timers off guard. go back and finish it up, 10 more QSOs on a nice day in the woods sounds like a good excuse to me.

yeah the 44 QSO thing tripped me up too on my first one, i drove home thinking i was done and then realized i was short. had to go back the next weekend lol. worth it though the reference i activated was a really nice wetland area and i probably wouldnt have gone there otherwise which is kind of the whole point of the program i think.

one thing i'll add is the WWFF spotting network is separate from POTA spots so if you want hunters to find you specifically for WWFF make sure you self spot on the wwff spotter not just pota.app. i forgot that the first couple times and wondered why i wasnt getting as many wwff specific callers.
