first SOTA activation totally humbled me lol

so i finally did my first summit activation last weekend, W4T/SU-003, nothing crazy just a 2 mile hike but man i was not prepared for how tired id be by the time i got up there. set up the kx3 and the end fed and just... sat there breathing for like 10 minutes before i even turned the radio on. made my 4 contacts and qualified the summit but it took way longer than i thought because i was fumbling with the log sheet in the wind. wind was the thing nobody warned me about. everything was flapping around and i almost lost my pen twice. anyway got it done and honestly felt amazing afterwards but yeah i need to figure out a better system for field logging, maybe just use my phone next time

haha yeah the wind thing is real, i clip my log sheet to a small clipboard and then shove that in my jacket pocket between contacts. sounds dumb but it works. also just use hamlog or sota goat on your phone, way easier and you can self spot from the app too which is kind of essential once you start doing more populated summits where chasers are waiting

congrats on the first one, it gets easier. i did like 6 before i felt like i actually knew what i was doing. my first was a disaster, forgot my coax adapter and had to rig something embarassing with electrical tape. made the contacts though so whatever counts as a win i guess
