first WWFF activation this weekend, few questions before i head out

so ive been doing POTA for about a year now and kept seeing people mention WWFF and finally looked into it properly last week. signed up on the wwff logbook site and found a nature reference about 45 mins from me, a state wildlife management area that qualifies. planning to head out saturday morning and give it a go.

my question is mainly about the logging side of things. i know you need 44 QSOs to get a reference activated, same as POTA basically, but does the wwff logbook accept adif uploads or do you have to enter contacts manually? also wondering if contacts made on FT8 count the same as SSB or is there some kind of preference in the WWFF community for voice modes. i dont want to show up and do it wrong and then have to go back again just because i messed up the log submission.

also is there a spotting network specific to wwff or do people mostly use pota spots or dx clusters? been trying to figure out the workflow before i go. any help appreciated, been lurking this forum for months and you all seem to know this stuff way better than the youtube videos explain it

welcome to WWFF, you're gonna enjoy it. the logbook does accept adif uploads which makes things pretty painless honestly, just make sure your logging software has the right fields for the reference number, it should show up as a comment or sota ref field depending on what you use. i use HAMRS for field work and it handles it fine.

as for modes, FT8 absolutely counts and plenty of activators use it especially if conditions are rough, but yeah the community does lean heavily toward SSB and CW if im being honest. nothing wrong with digital though, hunters just have to be watching the right spots. speaking of which, wwff has its own spots page at wwff.co and theres also a facebook group that gets pretty active with alerts. i usually post to both that and the pota spotter just to maximize chasers finding me. good luck saturday, what band you planning to run?

oh man i did my first WWFF activation like two months ago and had the same exact questions lol. one thing that tripped me up was that some references overlap with POTA parks so you can actually log both programs simultaneously if the park qualifies for both, worth checking before you go because it means double the credit for the same trip basically. the wwff.co website has a map where you can look it up.

the 44 QSO minimum is correct and they do count differently than pota in terms of how the activator awards work so its worth reading the rules page when you have a chance. mine took me about 90 minutes to hit 44 on 40m SSB on a slow day so just be patient if its not happening fast right away
