What are people actually using and recommending these days?

I use both Morse Trainer from Wolphi and Koch Morse Trainer Pro from Bit Ninja - both offer variable character speed, word speed, Farnsworth spacing, and custom character sets. Morse Trainer's ability to read user-generated text files is invaluable - you can practice with comma-separated word lists played randomly.

Morse Mania is by far the best app I've tried. Whether learning to hear or send, it provides excellent practice opportunities at your own pace, and well worth upgrading to the paid version. The newer apps with voice dictation and real-time feedback are game-changers - no manual note-taking required.

For serious practice, Morse Runner simulates contest environments with QRM, QRN, QSB, and auroral flutter - essential for real-world preparation. On mobile, Ham Morse app is great - I set it to play QSOs while showering, then check how much I copied afterward. The CW Academy trainer by Stephen Phillips is also excellent.
