so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state forest near me (KFF reference, not gonna bore you with the number) and honestly it went way better than i expected. set up my little linked dipole between two trees, ran about 25w on 40m and got a nice pileup going after spotting myself on pota.app — wait do WWFF folks use a different spotting system? i was using the POTA spotter out of habit and wasnt sure if that was the right move.

anyway managed 44 QSOs in about 2.5 hours which i think is enough to qualify the reference, but i cant find a clear answer on how many contacts you actually need. POTA is 10 to activate, is WWFF different? i thought i read 44 somewhere but that seems oddly specific and im not sure i didnt make that up.

also the logging — i used HAMRS on my phone for POTA stuff before but im not sure if it exports in the right format for WWFF. anyone gone through the upload process recently? the website confused me a little.

congrats on the first activation, 44 QSOs in the field is a solid outing especially on 25w. so yeah you're right about the number — WWFF does require 44 contacts to qualify an activation, hence why that number felt oddly specific, it's not a coincidence haha. it's kind of a fun thing where the number references the program name in a roundabout way.

for spotting, wwff has its own cluster at wwff.us and there's also the WWFF logger which some folks use in the field. that said plenty of activators use the POTA spotter too since a lot of the hunter community overlaps and people are watching both. you probably got good coverage doing it that way honestly. for log submission you'll want to export an ADIF from HAMRS — it does do ADIF export, just dig around the menus — and then upload through the wwff.us portal. the format is pretty standard, i havent had issues with HAMRS exports in the past. just make sure your reference number is in there correctly and double check the date.

nice work getting out there. i did my first wwff a few months ago and the 44 QSO thing tripped me up too, spent like 20 minutes after getting home trying to verify i hadnt imagined it. you're good though, 44 is the magic number. the upload wasnt too bad once i figured out you need to register on the wwff site separately from any other logging accounts you might have. took me two tries because i forgot to set the WWFF reference in my ADIF header but the site actually gives you a pretty readable error message so its not a disaster when it happens.
