Internet latency issues with remote TX - FlexRadio vs RemoteRig comparison

FlexRadio 6000/8000 series offerings were built from the ground up to be remote controlled and seem to handle internet latency well. Currently running Remote Rig with Kenwood 480HX - control head was at home and worked like I was in front of the radio. Experiencing 200-300ms latency on voice modes over internet connection - acceptable for digital but challenging for phone. Audio has to traverse over remote desktop software, and most prioritize screen traffic over audio. Anyone compare FlexRadio SmartSDR latency vs other solutions?

The link between radio/amp/tuner/antenna switch is an open protocol so FlexRadio handles audio separately from control data. My 6700 typically shows 80-120ms total latency over broadband. The native SmartSDR protocol is optimized for this unlike repurposed remote desktop solutions.

The audio setup is a bit trickier. If all you want to do is listen and talk, then wfview does fine all by itself. For Icom rigs, wfview has much lower audio latency than traditional CAT+VoIP combinations. Worth trying if you're not locked into Kenwood.

Consider QoS settings on your router to prioritize audio packets. Also look for a remote receiver to monitor your output. Plenty of HF SDRs are listed at: kiwifruit.com/public/ to check your signal quality during remote operation.
