my uncle who got me into the hobby has a really clean 1x2 call and id love something similar eventually but i know those are harder to get. for now i was just thinking maybe a 2x3 in my district would be easier to snag. does the sequential process still happen automatically or is that only if you dont apply for a vanity? i feel like ive read like four different explanations and they all contradict each other a little

congrats on passing so you already got your sequential call assigned, that happened automatically when the FCC processed your application. the vanity system is totally separate — you can apply for one basically right away, theres no mandatory waiting period after getting your initial license. just go through the FCC's ULS site and look for the vanity application, its under the license manager section i think.

the 1x2 calls are competitive for sure, especially in popular districts, but a 2x3 is usually pretty easy to get if you pick something thats been sitting unclaimed for a while. there are tools like AE7Q's callsign database that let you search available calls and see when they become eligible — definitely worth bookmarking that site before you apply. just make sure whatever call you pick matches your license class, technicians have some restrictions on the format.

yeah ae7q is the one everyone uses, i went through this whole thing like two years ago when i upgraded to general and wanted a shorter call. took me a few tries to find something i actually liked that wasnt already taken or in some weird pending status. the FCC application itself isnt too bad once you find the right form, just slow sometimes. good luck
