so ive been licensed about 8 months now (general) and i keep hearing people mention nets they check into regularly but i honestly have no idea where to find a reliable schedule. like i found some stuff on the ARRL site but half the links seem outdated or the frequencies listed dont match what im actually hearing when i scan around. checked into the morning net on 7.255 a couple times last week which was cool but i kind of stumbled onto that by accident.

also saw something about a special event station for some historical anniversary coming up and i want to try to work them for the certificate but again i dont really know where to look to find out when theyre actually on the air. is there like a central place people go for this stuff or is it just word of mouth and monitoring the clusters? feels like im missing something obvious here.

Yeah the ARRL net directory is honestly hit or miss, youre not imagining it. A lot of those listings havent been updated in years. What i usually do is check the Amateur Radio Newsline site and also the W5YI net directory — that one tends to be a bit more current. Also honestly just asking in a local club, someone always knows whats active on what frequency and what days.

For special event stations specifically, the ARRL has a page for that too but the QRZ forums are actually pretty good — people post upcoming events there and someone usually knows the operating schedule. DX-World dot net is another one i check. The thing with special events is they dont always stick to the published hours so i usually try to work them on multiple days if i can. Dont stress too much about it, after a while you just kind of build up a mental list of nets you like and it gets easier.

oh man i was in the same boat not too long ago. someone in my club told me about netword dot org and that helped a lot, also just listening around on 40 and 80 in the mornings you start to recognize the rhythm of different nets after a while. the 7.290 traffic net is one i check into semi regularly now and i only found it by accident too so youre not alone lol
