so i finally got off my butt and did a proper WWFF activation last weekend at a local nature reserve about 20 mins from my house. been meaning to do it for months and just kept putting it off. anyway i set up my KX3 with a random wire up in a tree and got my 44 contacts which i know is the minimum for a valid activation so that was nice.

but i have some questions about logging and uploading. i logged everything in HAMRS on my phone which worked great but now when im trying to upload to the WWFF logbook i'm not totally sure if i did the reference number right. the park i was at is listed on the wwff directory as KFF-XXXX (i'll look up the actual number) but i wasnt 100% sure if i needed to put that in every log entry or just the header. also do activators get credit toward hunter totals or is that completely separate tracking

overall it was just a really nice day out. ran mostly SSB on 40 and 20, conditions were decent. had a few people call me that had obviously done this before and were really patient when i fumbled around a bit. good program.

congrats on the first activation, 44 contacts on your first go is solid. for the logging question -- the reference goes in the header of your ADIF file, there's a field called MY_SIG_INFO and that's where your KFF reference number goes. every contact doesnt need it individually as long as the header is set correctly. most logging apps handle this automatically if you tell it upfront what park you're activating.

and yeah activator and hunter totals are tracked separately on the WWFF side. you get activator awards for successfully activating parks and hunter awards for working activators. they dont cross over but some people find the hunter side almost more addictive honestly because you can chase from home. check the wwff.us site for the award tiers, i think its 44 unique parks for the first hunter award but dont quote me on that.

anyway sounds like a great first outing. the 40m wire in a tree setup is honestly hard to beat for portable ops like this.

oh man i just started looking into WWFF myself after doing a bunch of POTA stuff. didnt realize how many parks and nature references were in the database, its kind of overwhelming at first. good to hear the KX3 worked well out there, i've been thinking about getting one for exactly this kind of thing but the price is a lot. did you run off batteries the whole time or did you have a way to charge out there?
